Retiree Event at Belmont Race Track

Some won when they picked a winning horse. Others won with a winning raffle ticket. But everyone had a good time when more than 300 retired laborers gathered at Belmont Racetrack for the Mason Tenders District Council’s annual Day at the Races.

“It’s all about the old-timers as far as I’m concerned,” said Victor Rizzo, Treasurer-Secretary of Local 79. He thanked the retirees for their years of hard work and their support for the union.

Spring Retiree Luncheon @ Villa Barone Manor

Bronx, N.Y. – Couples glided onto the dance floor as classic songs played at the Villa Barone restaurant on May 11th. Local 79’s grand afternoon luncheon saw retired union members catching up with good friends over cocktails and tasty cuisine.  Raffle prizes were given out, some of which included bountiful gift baskets, digital video recorders and a massive 40-inch flat-screen TV.

“The heart and soul of this international union is sitting in this room today,” said Raymond Pocino, Vice President and Regional Manager of LIUNA, Eastern Region.

He asked the retirees to give themselves a round of applause for all that they contribute to the union. “Whether it’s political phone banking or out on the picket lines you are always there for us.” 

The banquet honored laborers who had been full members of Local 79 for fifty years, recognizing them for decades of diligent service.

“You paved that road that we benefit from today,” said Delgado, toasting to the crowd.
