Political Action

Union strength has a lot to do with political power. While union members are only 4.3% of the population, union households accounted for 24% of the vote in the 2004 election. So our determination to vote and our ability to get out the vote is something no politician can ignore. On election day this year, 500 of your Brothers and Sisters worked in every Borough, handing out literature and helping voters get to the polls. We helped the Mayor win his re-election fight, supporting him because of his commitment to expanding union work. On this page, we'll list upcoming political action events, where your participation is needed. We also have slide shows of past political action events, so you can see the power of LIUNA Local 79 in action.
